To me, it seems that Man created God in his own image, rather than the
other way round.

Christians are big on guilt. If you don't believe in him, you will go
to hell.

I can't believe we're still talking about some deranged loony two
thousand years after he effectively committed suicide.

I find Catholicism objectionable. We don't want to die, so we invest
faith in an entity which lacks existence.

In the first century from the death of Christ, the religion was a
doomsday cult. Jesus was to return to Earth, we're living in end
times, etc.

It's been two thousand years. Jesus has not returned. We are no longer
living in end times.

At what point do we quietly concede that the various religions are all
as much rubbish as each other, and face actual reality rather than
insane superstition?

The only 'actual' reality *you* need to deal with is MI5 mindcontrol.

Indeed. It's a form of religion that makes people hear voices in their
heads and think someone's hounding them all the time.

Anyone who has read Hal Lindsey's book, _The Late Great Planet

It will be some time. It's actually normal to beleive in a higher
power of some sort. We're hard wired to beleive such.
This probably served a useful purpose at one time. Not only to
give an explanation to that which humans couldn't understand, but a
motivation to do what is right and be kind and love everyone.
Unless people believe in a different god. They need to be killed.

I believe in dogs however.

As les Barker said, many are in the church of the wholly undecided, but as
nobody has come back and told me things go on, and I don't recall anything
before some hazy memories of being a tiny child, it seems any God really
does need a software upgrade as blind faith does not exist.

tee hee, so I really do not think his trouble is MI5 at all its something
more internalised.
Somebody posted a picture a week or so back on bbc Sussex site claiming to
be the image of Crist in the watermark left by a small leak in a caravan
toilet. Now myself of course I cannot see this, but from the comments, most
seem to think it looks more like a goat.
All hail the Holy Goat!
Blasphemous heathen!
<tsk>
There is as much reason to beleive in a holy goat as a holy
ghost.
Don't be absurd. Why would there be a holy goat???
For the same reason there would be a holy ghost.

No need to get all sulky, you fucking wanker.
The Jesus story is just that, a story.

God has decided to install a genial buffoon in Number 10 in order to
destroy the Tories for the next decade and secure the eventual victory
of JC, the Prince of Peace who intends to detroy nuclear weapons. God is
working his purpose out as year succeeds to year. God is working his
purpose out and the time is drawing near.

What can we do to work God's work,
to prosper and increase
the brotherhood of all mankind--

I very much doubt that.

People have been saying that for centuries, but I doubt God is particularly
bothered about who is in Downing Street.

Therefore I suggest that we are a long long time from when the earth shall be
filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea.

There may well be a God. I do not believe that he would expect to be
worshipped regularly or that he would give a damn (literally) whether or
not people "believed in" him.
I find the concept of blasphemy ludicrous. If an omniscient and
omnipotent god is offended by something someone says, it should be
perfectly capable of applying the admonishment directly rather than
through the agency of humans (who then take upon themselves the
judgement of what a god would find offensive, which is surely
blasphemous in itself). It would also serve as a reminder to everybody
that said god was listening and ready to punish any offence it felt. A
god who relies on people to punish blasphemy is a pretty feeble god.

That simply doesn't follow. Why would a God who has billions of
inhabited planets to oversee pay detailed attention to what goes on in
our shitty little planet?

Anyway, blasphemy is man's way (not God's way) of ensuring that
respect for the deity is maintained.

Ok, in order to prevent you from trying (and failing) to be clever - just
name the stars some of your inhabited planets are orbiting.

The stars all have names, because astronomers have given them all names.

Billions of inhabited planets?
Yes. Why not?
Because there is no evidence of any others, so far.
Evidence? They are all beyond the limits of astronomical
exploration...so far.
And yet you say there are billions of inhabited planets.
Is your coke a particular strong supply this month?
There probably are. It can't be proved, only estimated using
probability. If you haven't read about the Drake Equation, I suggest
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation
I don’t need to.
I am quite capable of making my own mind up given the complete lack of
evidence.
Yes, but not necessarily correctly.
Possibly not, but without any evidence whatsoever my guess will be as
incorrect as anyone else’s.

Unlikely, given that some follow logic and rational assumptions using

There may well be a God. I do not believe that he would expect to be
worshipped regularly or that he would give a damn (literally) whether
or
not people "believed in" him.

Just wait a trillion years to find out.

Although, the universe has been on the go for over 13 billion, and some forms
of intelligent life could have started sending out radio waves (or other
detectable transmissions).

They haven’t reached us yet, or they reached us before we had the
technology to detect them, and have now gone silent.

Check out "omniscient" in a dictionary.

Anyway, blasphemy is man's way (not God's way) of ensuring that
respect for the deity is maintained.
Correct.

No need. Omniscience has been attributed to God by man. A convenient
concept, but not one necessarily rooted in truth.

I can't believe we're still talking about some deranged loony two
thousand years after he effectively committed suicide.
To claim Jesus committed suicide isn't really accurate. According
to the Christian mythos, he was sent for the purpose of dying. He made
no effort to prevent his death, but he didn't cause his death.

I find Catholicism objectionable. We don't want to die, so we invest
faith in an entity which lacks existence.
So the other denominations are OK?

It is not just if you don’t believe in him; but if you do not do what his

to do - you will also end up in hell.
