As it happens they actually charge more for it than a nearby posh restaurant, and replaced a decent Cava (that I used to buy) with a much inferior Prosecco.
Perhaps he hopes he can sell semi-sweet 'champagne' perry (e.g. Babycham) at a massive mark up post Brexit as in the bad old days.
In H P Bulmer Ltd and Showerings Ltd v J Bollinger SA , the Champagne houses lost, but subsequent Euro protected status stopped other drinks being passed off as Champagne so now other bottle fermented wines (e.g. Cava) are now described as 'methode traditionelle"
PS Tim also stopped taking Euros for while for similar xenophobic reasons, but relented when he noticed many tourists going elsewhere especially in London.
