Um ... maybe the newsies should call in Bill Nye. OK,
maybe not Bill ......
In any case, they act as if there's a huge mystery about
how the two women who assassinated Kim Jong Nam
managed to use VX nerve agent without also killing
themselves. Even the BBC seems mystified.
Big clue ... VX is one of a group of chemical weapons
known as a "binary" agent. This means, say, a shell
or rocket contains TWO seperate bottles of chemicals
that only become VX when MIXED TOGETHER. Ie
there's a chemical reaction between the two and the
result is VX.
This is much safer for munitions work because it's
very unlikely both reagent containers would accidently
leak at the same time. Thus any leaks are gonna be
of the low-toxicicy precursors, not ultra-deadly VX.
This in mind ... you give each woman a cloth with ONE
of the precursor reagents on it. The first one wipes his
face, then the second one - with the OTHER reagent
on the cloth - does the same.
The two parts then combine, ON his skin, to form VX
and he's dead in minutes.
The first assassin only has the precursor on her hands.
The second has mostly the other precursor but maybe
also a tiny bit of VX from when the reaction started. It
is reported that one of the women started (and
continues) a vomiting jag shortly after the attack while
the other was fine. Guess who wiped first ?
THIS is why they used TWO assassins. Each was
one half of the murder and neither was carrying VX,
which air sensors might be looking for or which
might kill an assassin before she reached her target.
Clear now ?
Talk about scientific illiteracy ....
Lets invite some others in on this...shall we?

The most likely combination is VG (still fairly toxic, but not as lethal as VX) and sulphur, which is yellow.

Indeed. Malaysia hasn't release all the CCTV, however it looks like the two women were 'expendable' - i.e. they weren't expected to survive either.

Funny one of them became seriously ill...

"Malaysia's police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said on Friday that the presence of the nerve agent had been detected in swabs taken from Mr Kim's eyes and face.

One of the women Mr Kim interacted with at the airport on 13 February had also fallen ill with vomiting afterwards, he added.
:
:
:
Mr Khalid has previously said the fact the woman who accosted Mr Kim immediately went to wash her hands showed she was "very aware" that she had been handling a toxin."

Not necessarily, many reasons to wash non toxic stuff off.

More like opening a phial of VX without PPE would disable the person
holding it before they got any chance to deliver it to the target.

Or in US speak agent QL and agent NE (sulphur). It does seem likely that
they chose a binary chemical weapon since it could be reliably delivered
to the target without killing the go between vectors first.

The one who applied the second component was lucky to survive.

All very similar to the assassination attempt in Casino Royale. Maybe
that's where Kim got the idea from.

Similar, but not as similar as the infamous

So, while that's perfectly possible, why is it that the video evidence available
shows only one wipe?
