Theresa May has announced that if elected she will introduce legislation which
will set a maximum annual rent for all rented domestic properties. The maximum
annual rent will be set as a percentage of the value of the property.
Properties will have to be valued by registered estate agents and then that
value will apply for five years until a re-evaluation will be required. The
fee for evaluation will be fixed at a maximum of £200 and will be borne by the
owner of the rental property.
All local authorities will be required to set the percentage for their area.
The new maximum rentals will be mandatory with effect from 1 January 2018.
Theresa May has said "This is just the sort of action that the hardworking
British people of the United Kingdom require from a strong and stable
government. Jeremy Corbyn refused to comment.
