It's time to boycott those companies that promote homosexuality in their adverts.

They are harming us if you are in a car or bus with them and it was in an accident; there is good chance of you also catching AIDS from them.

The AIDS virus doesn't live outside of the body.

Why are we so paranoid about used syringes?

I think you'll find most viruses can live outside the body, the issue is
for how long and under what conditions.

Viri
Viri is the second declension masculine but since Virus is a neuter noun
it cannot be masculine of feminine. In addition virus is a mass noun
where it is only ever used to describe a group of 'stuff' like sand or
smoke (the noun not the noun-ed verb). The Romans never pluralised an
uncountable mass noun like water or fruit, the use of fruits of your
labours or the sands of time is a modern phenomenon.

I have Gwynne's latin on my desk right now but he remains silent on
virus which is odd as he has a lot to say about absolutely everything else.

Even the ancient Romans didn't bother to decline it correctly, later
ecclesiastic latin post Roman empire never had a go but there is a
modern latin community that deals with virus in our modern context of a
disease (the original meaning is toxin or venom) and they use vira (long i).

Why choose classics? It's not very vocational..... or are you
past the age when that matters?

In my 50s and I have degrees in technical subjects, its time for
something for fun if you have a very weird definition of fun. I studied
classics ate school a very long time ago.

Bit older than you and also went on to study maths & physics but
somehow was forced to study classical greek and latin to 'O' level.

Still at least I was conversant with all the math/trig symbols that we
encountered.

It was only Latin and classical history that we studied at our school,
great if you are going into the law or even medicine but I became an
engineer.
It also had the advantage of making me fitter, you had to be selected
from the top stream to study Latin so that painted a big target on my
back and I spent a lot of time either running or fighting.

Happy days.
